How to Prep for a Fresh Start in Fall

mindset Apr 07, 2021

It's a new month and a new excuse to declutter your life (physically or mentally) and start fresh.

I don't know about you but I always feel like there are two separate 'starts' to the year - one in January and another in September.

Summer is always kind of crazy whether its travel or wedding season or time off work, so for me September feels like another opportunity to reign it all back in and start anew. But it sneaks up fast, so August is a great time to start prepping for what you want to accomplish and how you want to show up in the last quarter of the year.

Can you even believe that 2019 is nearly 3/4 of the way through already?!

So... this is how I'm prepping for a killer end to 2019:👇🏼👇🏼

1. Make movement a PRIORITY:

With summer vacation and traveling my eating and exercising habits have gotten straight up SLOPPY. Just being real.

So, the next few months I'm going to be making a conscious effort to put movement at the top of my priorities list. I'm not going to obsess over it or judge myself around it but I need to move this body every. damn. day.

It could be a long walk with my dog, a morning stretch or yoga flow, a quick home workout or a full-on gym sesh but if there's one thing I know FOR SURE in this life it's that MOVEMENT HEALS.

It's not always easy and sometimes a pain in the ass to get started but our bodies, minds, spirits, health and relationships are better when we're active - so I'm ready to re-commit to daily movement. Who's with me?!

2. Get Serious About a Morning Routine:

I bet you're sick of hearing about morning routines by now - ME FRICKIN' TOO!

But you wanna know why I hate hearing about them so often? It's not because I think it's bullshit, no, I definitely believe in the power they hold... it's because I STILL haven't established a solid one for myself!

And by that I mean one that works for me EVERY DAY not just on days where I feel motivated to try hard. I'm sick of stopping and starting with overly-ambitious morning routine goals - can you relate?

So, it's time for me to accept that I can't do 10 amazing things every morning but doing ONE or TWO would be more powerful than stopping and starting and trying and failing to do too much all the time.

To close out the year strong I'm boiling it down to these 3 transformative things in the A.M: stretch, meditate, journal.

If you can choose even just 1 single thing that would make you a better version of yourself and do that every morning for the rest of the year you'd see results. Do you think we can do it?!

3. Think Less, Do More:

Overthinking is a disease - and we all have it.

Humans were never meant to think as many thoughts as we do over and over again about things we can't control or events far outside the present moment.

Our minds are overloaded by constantly living in the past or the future - think about it... take a few minutes to just observe what you think about during the day and ask yourself how much of it pertains to either the past (a memory, experience, reflection) or the future (a schedule, deadline, upcoming event, to-do list, plan etc.) You'll find that about 98% (if not ALL) of your thoughts are rooted somewhere outside the present. 🤯

What this looks like in my life is constantly thinking ahead, scheduling the day, micromanaging my time, thinking of a thousand different ideas and projects I want to work on and create but never taking action on any of them because I'm so busy and overwhelmed with all the thinking. Sounds dumb right? That's cuz it is.

👉🏼 ...which is why I'm committed to REDUCING DISTRACTIONS (aka my phone) thinking less and DOING MORE.

These are just the 3 ways that I've chosen to prepare myself for a better end to 2019 - you can do them with me or think of your own that better fit your lifestyle and current needs.  But don't miss this opportunity to reflect on how you're doing and create a game plan for how to up-level your life.
