How To Get Back on Track with Health + Wellness Goals

health + fitness Apr 07, 2021

Whether it’s the holiday season or the end of summer there are certain times of year that can be absolute craziness for all of us. Between the family parties, concerts, travel, weddings, dinners and happy hours it's easy to fall off track from our normal habits that keep us healthy, happy, and motivated.

BUT! The important thing to note is that:

1. WE ALL FALL OFF (it's not just you)
2. WE NEED A BREAK HONEY👏🏼 (don't beat yourself up)

If you were to stay on top of your routines (morning rituals, fitness, nutrition, business, meditation, prayer, whatever) ALL year round with no breaks I might actually think you were a psychopath super human.

It's not natural to ALWAYS be on!!

We need time off too, even from the things that make us great. Life is constantly ebbing and flowing, so we need to get rid of the idea that we can somehow be perfectly scheduled and disciplined all the time while keeping our sanity and joy intact.

So whatever "breaks" or "cheats" you've had during this season of life, GOOD FOR YOU! You deserve that. (To an extent - I mean, I don't know your life but we'll just assume that you weren't blacking out and gambling your life savings away for months on end)

BUT THERE COMES A TIME WHERE WE EVEN START TO GET TIRED OF THE BREAK...

Like, it was fun and cool for me to eat an ice cream cone the size of my face for 5 weeks straight (true story) but now I'm kind of over it. Feeling like a green juice or something, ya know?

That's when you realize that the break has done its job in satisfying you, but if you continue any further it will just start to feel crappy.

That means it's time to RECOMMIT. Recommit to your goals, to your health, to your daily habits, to all the things that are helping you become the BEST version of yourself.

SO HERE ARE MY TIPS FOR GETTING BACK ON TRACK WITH YOUR OVERALL HEALTH + WELLNESS:

1. Forgive yourself for falling off track in the first place.

It’s really ok - you’re gonna be fine. All hope is not lost!

2. List 3 things that you’re glad you did during your time “off.”

Sometimes we need breaks from our healthy routines to just LIVE! To be in the moment, eat and drink what we want and spend quality time with loved ones.

Celebrate these important aspects of your time away from your routine. Who did you connect with? What memories did you make? What amazingggingly delicious foods did you eat?

3. Start Easy!

Don’t try to create some impossible comeback plan with insane meal restrictions and gym routines. Do one workout. 🏋🏼‍♀️ Eat one salad. 🥗 You’ll get in the rhythm if you just start.

4. First workout MUST be a fun one.

Don’t start with something you hate. Take a cycling class you love, practice yoga, go for a long walk, workout with a buddy. Just make sure the first one is enjoyable and actually feels good.

5. Don't Stress!

Remind yourself that no matter how hard you workout and eat well if you’re stressing out, feeling guilty, or not sleeping 8 hours it ain’t gonna make a damn difference.

Practice listening to your body and make sure that your efforts to get back on track are making you feel GOOD, truly. Be kind to yourself!
